How they were raised

They've grown up with us.

Barney, Betty and Wilma were our original three Muscovies. Almost every bird you see here is part of the family that followed โ€” their descendants, hatched and raised here at home.

Most have known us from the day they emerged from their eggs and have grown up around people, other Muscovies and the normal sights and sounds of backyard life.

They are not necessarily cuddly pets โ€” Muscovies have personalities and boundaries of their own, and adult drakes in particular are big, powerful birds. Ours are healthy, well socialised and remarkably engaging animals to have around.

Why Muscovies?

There is a lot to love about these birds.

Living with a large Muscovy flock has given us a pretty good view of what makes them special. They are useful backyard companions, fascinating social animals and, with appropriate care, remarkably capable birds.

๐ŸŒฟ

Natural foragers

They spend a remarkable amount of time exploring grass and garden areas for insects, flies, worms and assorted small backyard critters.

๐Ÿคซ

Remarkably quiet

Muscovies do not have the constant traditional quack many people associate with ducks. Much of their communication is soft, breathy and expressed through body language.

๐Ÿฆ†

Social & full of character

They develop individual personalities, flock relationships and routines. Once familiar with their people, they are wonderfully engaging animals simply to have around.

๐Ÿ’ช

Hardy & capable

These are seriously robust birds. We have seen firsthand just how resilient they can be. That toughness does not replace good care, but it is one of the qualities we admire about them.

And yes, they can surprise you. We have even watched one of our adult drakes catch and kill a rat. We would not advertise Muscovies as a pest-control service, but it was a memorable demonstration of just how formidable a large Muscovy can be.

Our priority

Pets, not food.

These ducks have been raised as part of our family flock. We are looking for people who genuinely want Muscovies as pets, companions or much-loved backyard birds โ€” not for meat or commercial production.

A safe, happy and respected home is the priority.

A suitable home

What will they need?

  • Secure accommodation and sensible predator protection.
  • Enough space to move, forage and behave like Muscovies.
  • Fresh water, appropriate food and regular care.
  • Suitable Muscovy companionship where appropriate.
  • Someone who understands that ducks are wonderful โ€” and occasionally gloriously messy.
No rush

The right match matters.

We do not need every bird to leave at once. We would rather take our time and find homes that suit the individual ducks.

If you are interested, tell us a little about where you live, whether you already keep Muscovies or other poultry, and the sort of home you can offer.
